As a part of my marathon training, I decided to add some half marathons into my training schedule. The first official half marathon as a part of my training is the Salinas Valley Half Marathon this weekend. Signing up for and running races keeps me motivated to stick to my training schedule. Because if I don’t, I know I’ll be miserable on race day. Plus I am very competitive, so I love pushing myself and seeing my times improve. It also keeps me fueling my body with a healthy diet and lots of water.
And I think I have a problem because I keep signing up for races! I recently became an ambassador for BibRave, a website where you share and look up race reviews. Personally, I love looking up reviews to races before I sign up for them. See my profile here and see how you can become an ambassador here! After I signed up, I was offered the opportunity to run in this race, and I couldn’t pass it up! Look how beautiful the scenery is on course.
The Salinas Valley Half Marathon begins at the Soledad Mission and runs through Steinbeck Country (you already know I’m a book lover!). Finishing at the Pessagno Winery, there is complimentary wine tasting and a free beer from Anchor Brewing Co. for runners. Bib pickup is the day before at the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital’s Farmers Market. There you can shop for race swag and souvenirs. Apparently there’s a sign on course that references Steinbeck’s East of Eden, which I am hoping to read before the race. Here’s some more information on Steinbeck country, and why it will be really awesome to run through it at this race. There will also be a recovery area, music, and BBQ for $11 at the finish line party.
And it’s not too late, you can still sign up! Use the code “BRP17” for some bonus race swag! And don’t forget to sign up for my email list before you go to stay up to date on races, running products, and my marathon training!
Disclaimer: I received free entry to the Salinas Valley Half Marathon as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!
