Happy New Year! It’s time to share our reviews for the last books we read in 2017 with another Reading Lately linkup. I must admit, I was a little burnt out after my semester ended so I didn’t have the best month of reading in December either. So anyway, here is what I’ve been reading lately!Reading Lately December 2017

Forever by Abrianna Denae

Marley and Wyatt are both harbouring secrets when they meet. There’s an instant connection between the two that they try to deny. But the more time they spend together, the more they open up about their lives and their pasts. They find themselves inseparable and the key to healing each others pain.

Ugh, I hate to be so critical and negative in my reviews, but this book just did not do it for me. While I was offered this book by Quirky Blind Date with a Book for free to review, it was a finished copy and I can’t ignore the typos that plague this book. It’s also extremely repetitive and can’t think of right word, everyone is described as “my beautiful broken boy/girl” and quite often. It almost became a waiting game to see how soon before the phrase was used again. Then the author used phrases like, “I’m watching her break” or “she’s breaking”. Use a different adjective. And something just bugs me about the way they described themselves and each other as broken, I don’t think people would really say that.

Ugh and their “it’s the end of the world” problems and drama are over the top and annoying. I really expected their problems to have been way worse than they actually were. While their problems are real and unfortunate, I found them to be quite histrionic. Oh and the ending, or the prologue, was very unexpected and I’m not sure how I felt about it.

A lot of people liked the book (see the ratings on Goodreads here), so maybe this book was just not for me. But I did not like it. If you do read it (or have already), I’d love to know your thoughts!

Betting on Love by Danielle Dickson

Billie needs a fresh start after a bad breakup with her boyfriend, so she moves from Britain to America. There she moves into the same apartment complex as Mac, whom Billie observes to be a player. When Mac first meets Billie, he finds her incredibly attractive and unable to get her out of his head. But men are off the table for Billie, so Mac comes up with a bet in attempts to sleep with Billie and get her out of his head. As the two spend more time together as a part of the bet, they find themselves unusually open with each other. Through teasing and pranks, the two find themselves both losing the bet.

This is such a cute romcom book! I loved reading the banter between the two and the pranks they played on each other! Their feelings were both extremely relatable, Billie having been cheated on and Mac afraid of commitment. I like their easygoing relationship and how much fun they have. There are definitely some boundaries that are crossed that would seem creepy in real life situations, but it made for an entertaining book. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you love romantic comedies or love stories with happy endings. 4.5/5 stars!
