If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know how much I love reading and writing. I cohost a Reading Lately linkup every month (taking a break for the holidays) where I write about the books I’ve read in the previous month. I’m an English major in college where I read and write even more. Sometimes the books are harder to get through, but I appreciate that it makes me read literature outside of my norm/comfort zone. Plus I feel it broadens and enhances my knowledge. I love getting completely lost in another world, going on dangerous adventures, and creating friendships with people who exist only in books. So I’ve compiled a list of gifts that would be great for your favorite book lover.
Candles
I love lighting candles around the house, the lighting is so romantic and cozy. And I love when the aroma fills up the house. I love lighting a candle or two and then snuggling up on the couch with a book. Two options are to buy candles that smell like books (heaven!) or buy them candles that are from their favorite book!
I found this Pemberley Estate Candle collection which I just had to buy. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books, and the scents sound so incredible I just couldn’t resist buying this for myself.
- Elizabeth Bennet is a fresh blend of warm spice, patchouli, and a delicate floral accord of blooming lily and amber
- Pemberley: Blend of cedarwood, pine, and fern
- Mr. Darcy: Musk, sandalwood, and rain water
The same company also makes this Library Set of scented candles, with scents/names of Antique Books, New Books, and Ancient Scrolls. These Butterbeer scented candles are adorable, I really want to try these out to see how they smell!
Socks or slippers
I practically live in slippers since I do most of my work and school from home. My feet are always cold, so I wear them year round. I also have an obsession with warm, fuzzy socks. My best friend actually had to tell me to be an adult and stop wearing my slippers out places. My current slippers are similar to these Victoria’s Secret ones and are very well loved, so I’ve asked for this pair of Ugg slippers for Christmas.
Throw blanket
The ideal reading environment involves lots of pillows and a warm blanket. I love having throw blankets everywhere so that I can quickly grab one to bundle up. We already have a nice collection of blankets, but I’m eyeing this Harry Potter one.
Relaxing tea
If I’m not having some coffee in the morning, I like to relax with a cup of tea. One of my favorites has always been Bigelow’s Cozy Chamomile herbal tea. When I was in Alaska for one of my best friends weddings, I tried some of her Aveda Comforting Tea and it was delicious!
Coffee mug
I love relaxing with some tea or coffee, especially during the winter. This “Professional Bookworm” mug by Society 6 is simple and adorable. Then there’s this Don’t Let the Muggles get you Down mug perfect for the Harry Potter lover. Or this set of three Harry Potter mugs from Warner Brothers which includes a transforming Mischief Managed mug, Hedwig mug, and cauldron mug! Sorry for all the Harry Potter references/gift ideas, it’s one of my favorite series!
Book ornament
An ornament is something small and sweet to get as a stocking stuffer. It’s a great way to build up your collection of ornaments as you build your lives. You could do a general book ornament or something from their favorite book or author (yup, more Harry Potter).
Subscription Box
A great gift idea for your book lover is a monthly subscription box! Book of the Month picks five of the best new books each month and you select the one you want to read. They can skip the month if none of the books appeal to them! Give the gift of a Book of the Month membership here (and you get a month free for yourself!).
Audible subscription
Some people prefer to listen to audio books over reading. It’s a convenient way to get through books while commuting or working out. My boyfriend’s sister actually told me about Audible, because she listens while she walks to meetings. You can keep your books if you cancel your membership, which you can do easily online. And if you really hate the book you pick, you can swap it for a new one!
Bookmark
Always a useful gift for a reader. I end up using whatever I can find as a bookmark, including receipts. I won’t bore you with more Harry Potter themed stuff, but there are so many options of bookmarks you can pick up practically anywhere (amazon or barnes&noble for example).
Reading light
This is an essential for any book lover. It allows us to stay up way too late reading while our significant other sleeps. It is also perfect for people who are like me, too lazy to get back up to turn off the light when it’s time for bed (when I’ve finished the book). I bought this reading light by LuminoLite last year and it’s perfect because it’s rechargeable so you don’t have to worry about replacing it or the batteries!
Kindle
Being a book lover, I accumulate a ton of books which take up a lot of space in our apartment. I’ll have my Beauty and the Beast library someday. So while I prefer to read physical books, I end up getting a lot of digital books. I admit it is nice to get the digital book immediately and start reading right away, and they don’t take up any space in the house, and I can bring them all with me when I travel. A Fire Tablet is a perfect gift for your book lover, especially since they’re on sale on Amazon!
Wall Art
Another great option is to get some wall art featuring a quote or painting from their favorite book! I’m sure you’re sick of the Harry Potter, it really doesn’t help that I’m currently rereading the series. I found two pieces of decor that I had to share! This first one is a beautiful watercolor poster print and the second one is a Dumbledore quote wood pallet sign.
And my absolute favorite way to read (or write blog posts) is to snuggle up with my kitties. They are great personal heaters and their purring is so rhythmic and relaxing. As soon as I settle down in my blanket, someone comes to cuddle me and it’s Adopting a kitty is a great idea, just remember to consider an older kitty!
These are all such great gift ideas! I love to cozy up with a soft and warm blanket while sipping a hot drink when I read. It makes it so hard to get anything else done though 😉 Hope you had an amazing New Year ♥
Haha I have a hard time getting anything else done when I cuddle up to read! Glad you liked the list 🙂
