About Kona Luxury Treehouse

Once you book your stay, the owners Justyn and Jeff send you a welcome email with all of the details and information you need before your stay. It includes how to find the property, details on where to park, WiFi information, and some important notes about your stay. They are extremely friendly and checked in with me multiple times during my stay asking if I needed anything. They have well behaved labs and two adorable kitties that they keep away from the treehouse to not disturb their guests.

The treehouse was originally built for their daughter before evolving into one of the most unique places to stay on the Big Island. They kept the original steps on the tree trunk used to climb up to the treehouse. It’s a quaint, nostalgic touch.

Kona Luxury Treehouse is located on a 3 acre tropical fruit farm in the lower Kaloko rainforest. It’s tucked away at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac surrounded by lush tropical foliage. From the moment you arrive, it feels like you’ve found one of the Big Island’s best kept secrets. It’s quiet, secluded, and magical. There are technically two entrances to the treehouse. Hidden behind lush foliage, there’s a gate that looks like something out of The Secret Garden. But this gate leads you to the Kona Luxury Treehouse. The other entrance is from where you park your car on the owners property. You’ll walk up the spiral staircase to the treehouse.

When you first arrive, park your rental car in the cul-de-sac by the gate to drop off your luggage and get your first look at the property. Then go down the driveway and park your car on the owners property. More instructions are provided in the introductory email.

First Impressions of Kona Luxury Treehouse

The indoor/outdoor living is the perfect combination of quaint and luxurious. The Kona Luxury Treehouse features wood shingles, romantic lighting, unique architecture, and gorgeous views. The expansive lanai offers sweeping views overlooking Kona, the coastline, and the Pacific Ocean. It’s the perfect place to enjoy coffee in the morning and spend a peaceful evening unwinding and watching the sunset.

The bedroom has floor to ceiling glass pocket doors that you can completely slide into the wall for breathtaking views of Kona below. There is a full screen that you can open and close to keep bugs out and access the lanai.

The king bed is so comfortable, making it easy to fall asleep to the sounds of the rainforest and enjoy a slow morning. It’s also the perfect place to curl up with a good book or simply enjoy the view.

Between the bedroom and the entrance gate, there’s an outdoor kitchen and dining area. Across from the kitchen is a bathroom equipped with a toilet with a bidet/heated seat system and a shower with a waterfall head.

There’s a chicken coop on site where the owners welcome you to collect farm fresh eggs.

Amenities

If you’re expecting a traditional five star resort experience with room service and polished hotel amenities, this is not that. But honestly, it’s so much better. The luxury comes from the experience of waking up in the rainforest, disconnecting and slowing down, and staying somewhere unlike anywhere else on the island. You are secluded from the crowds and have total privacy.

You still have access to luxury amenities like a hot tub and sauna, and you can enjoy them all to yourself. The sauna feels like it’s built right into the tree. And the hot tub has beautiful views of the property, foliage, and the ocean in the distance.

Final Thoughts

What I’ll remember most about staying at the Kona Luxury Treehouse isn’t the breathtaking sunsets or the luxurious amenities, it will be waking up surrounded by the rainforest, listening to the birds singing, falling asleep to the sounds of the coqui frogs, and slowing down for a few days. If you’re looking for a stay that’s peaceful, unique, and luxurious, the Kona Luxury Treehouse offers an experience that’s hard to beat.

Things to Know Before Booking Kona Luxury Treehouse

Here are a few things to keep in mind before you book your stay!

You should rent a car for your stay. The Kona Luxury Treehouse is a great secluded retreat, but that also means it’s a little more remote and tucked away from restaurants and activities.

You’re at the end of a quiet residential street and I barely heard the neighbors or the owners. I felt complete privacy and safety during my stay.

Expect nature sounds as the property is located in the rainforest. There are the sounds of birds and frogs, but it’s very peaceful and adds to the experience.

I’m not sure what the weather is normally like here, but I experienced a mix of rain, sun, and fog. During my stay I enjoyed sunny mornings, foggy and rainy afternoons, and overcast evenings making for beautiful sunsets with cotton candy skies.

Accessibility Note: The treehouse has stairs from the parking area and several steps from the gate entrance.

Photography Tips for the Kona Luxury Treehouse

If you’re looking to get amazing photos of your trip to Big Island, Kona Luxury Treehouse will add incredible photos to your collection. Here are some of my favorite photo spots and tips for getting the best photos!

I experienced a variety of weather during my stay. I found the best light in the early morning, from about 5:30am until close to noon. Then the fog and rain rolled in for dramatic, moody vibes. It felt like I was on the set of Twilight. It also removed harsh lighting and shadows.

The property has so many instagrammable and photographic spots. There’s a lot of attention to architectural details that make it unique. The spiral staircase and octagonal windows are must shoot architectural details.

When the weather is clear and bright, get some gorgeous photos from the lanai and the bed facing the views overlooking Kailua-Kona.

The walkway between the gate and the bedroom was probably my favorite section to photograph. In the early morning, the light rays filter in by the gate creating a beautiful, ethereal glow. And walking towards the bedroom down the walkway is beautiful.

Don’t forget exterior shots of the treehouse! Get photos of walking towards the treehouse, looking up at you on the lanai, or use a drone for an amazing view of you nestled in the foliage.

Nearby Adventures

Overlooking Kailua-Kona, there are plenty of nearby activities! Head down to the town of Kona for beaches, snorkeling, coffee farm tours, the Seahorse farm, dive with manta rays, or enjoy a scenic drive.

The Kona Luxury Treehouse is also a good home base for heading up to the North Shore for the Waipi’o Valley Lookout.
