I like to think that Jeff and I don’t watch a lot of tv, yet our DVR always seems to be dangerously full. We have a few shows we record and watch regularly as we relax at night. I also have all the Harry Potters recorded because I like watching movies as I go to bed, and what’s better than some magic to influence your dreams! So I wanted to share what we’re watching in case you’re looking for some good shows to watch or just need something entertaining to go with a glass bottle of wine after a long day.
On TV:
Are You The One: This addicting MTV reality show is full of drama, love, and exotic adventures. Each season takes place in a different location, seasons one and three (current season) in Hawaii and season two was in Puerto Rico. The show is set up with ten guys and ten girls, and there are ten perfect matches. They all have to connect to try to figure out who their perfect match by winning challenges, going on getaway dates, and consuming lots of alcohol (because that’s how we find true love, right?). Each week, two to three winners of the challenges pick a partner and head out on a getaway date. The rest of the house picks which couple should go into the Truth Booth, which determines if the couple is a perfect match or not (basically a free pass). When a perfect match is confirmed in the Truth Booth, the couple leaves the rest of the house and goes to the honeymoon suite. If they are pronounced no match, usually lots of tears and alcohol follow. Then they go to a match up ceremony where they pick who they believe is their perfect match and are told how many perfect matches there are, but not who those matches are.
The best part of the show? If the participants succeed in getting all ten matches, they win $1,000,000!!! Well, the twenty people split a million dollars, so they only get $50k, but that’s on top of spending ten weeks in some exotic location so I’d be ok with it! Each new season has added a twist to the game, making it all the more enticing.
How To Get Away With Murder: This show is full of drama, with questionable ethics and many surprising twists. Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) plays a teacher and a top criminal defense attorney. She hires a set of students to intern for her who she bosses around to do her dirty work. Many of Keating’s tactics in the courtroom are questionable as she tries to win her cases by any means necessary. The show reveals future events through flash forwards, piquing your curiosity. And there is always something dramatic happening, a lot of lies, deception, backstabbing, and murder.
Fun Fact: One of the main characters, Wes Gibbons (Alfred Enoch), plays Dean Thomas in Harry Potter!
Quantico: This ABC series just premiered this fall and I have mixed feelings about it. It is set up similarly to How To Get Away With Murder with lots of flash backs and flash forwards. It is about a group of FBI trainees at Quantico in the flashbacks and the flash forwards take us to after graduation where the star of the academy Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) is framed for a terrorist attack. We follow her tracking down the real terrorist as the FBI places her at the top of the most wanted list. I think there is too much flashing back/forward and I think the idea is very unoriginal. But I’m still very interested to see where they go with the show.
On Netflix:
Weeds: Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker), a mother of two boys whose husband died unexpectedly is left unable to afford the lifestyle she is accustomed to. To make money to continue living her lavish lifestyle, she becomes a pot dealer in her town. Full of sex and drama, this show is entertaining and comical. However, the show takes a major turn in season 4 and I started to lose interest. I ended up getting bored and impatient so I looked up what happens in the show. Jeff has already seen it and doesn’t know I’ve already looked up how the show pans out so he keeps encouraging me to finish the show. I do want to finish it and it is entertaining… it’s just not high on my priority list.
Dexter: Another suggestion from Jeff since he knows how much I love crime shows. I haven’t gotten a chance to watch much of this show, but from what I’ve seen it is very intriguing. Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is an expert in forensics analysis working for the police force and has a very big secret. He tracks and murders the criminals who have escaped their due punishment of the justice system. We spend a lot of time in his head hearing his twisted thoughts, but it adds to the excitement of the show.
Reign: Taking place in the 1500’s, Mary Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane) moves to France with her closest friends to marry the Prince for her country. However, scandal arises in the castle as someone does not want her to marry Prince Francis and continuously tries to kill her. There is a lot of lying, sneaking around, and deception in the show which seems to be a theme of my favorite shows. The first time I saw this show on tv I ended up marathoning it all day and did absolutely nothing productive.
Revenge: Another fantastic drama taking place in the Hamptons of NY’s Long Island. Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) seeks revenge on the people who ruined her fathers life and her family’s reputation. The fashion of the cast is to die for, living in an upscale area they have expensive and very elegant taste. Again with the lying and deception as Thorne lives a secret life pretending to be someone she’s not to get in with her betrayers.
Shows I Want to Watch:
The Bastard Executioner
Scandal
Have you seen any of these? If yes, what are your thoughts? Any shows I’m missing out on?
I love How To Get Away With Murder and Quantico! I had no idea Wes was in Harry Potter though! You learn something new everyday. I started watching The Bastard Executioner but I’m a little behind on that. It was a little hard to follow along at first but I enjoyed it. And I keep saying I’m going to start watching Scandal. I also love Drunk History and pretty much all of Bravo.
Haha I noticed it right away, but I watch Harry Potter a lot. I’ve recorded The Bastard Executioner but just haven’t start it. Never even heard of Drunk History either, just googled it and it looks hilarious!! Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
I feel better reading this as I watch a lot of tv lol. Quantico is one of my favorite new shows!! You must start Scandal ASAP! It is so good!
*** update I’m missing Revenge this season
Haha we like watching TV in the evening as we unwind after the day. I really like Quantico too but I don’t like that the way it’s set up is unoriginal. And I really want to start Scandal! I’m glad other people like it and it’s not just my boyfriend :p
How to Get Away With Murder is on my list! I am a huge Scandal fan, but always am sad when I don’t get HTGAWM!
